How to Identify and Report Phishing Emails
Phishing emails are deceptive, malicious emails, that are designed to steal your personal information or credentials to compromise your information security. Here's how to identify and report these threats using the Phish Alert Button.
Identifying Phishing Emails
Look out for these common signs of phishing:
Unknown sender or suspicious email address
Generic greetings like "Dear Customer"
Urgent requests or threats to take immediate action
Unsolicited attachments
Links to unfamiliar websites
Requests for personal information
Poor grammar or spelling errors
Reporting Phishing Emails with the Phish Alert Button
Outlook Desktop
OWA
The Phish Alert Button provides a safe way to report suspicious emails to FSCJ’s Information Technology team. Here's how to use it:
For Windows and Mac (Outlook Desktop)
Select the suspicious email in your inbox
Click the "Phish Alert Report" button in the Outlook ribbon
The email will be deleted from your inbox and forwarded to your Email administrator for investigation.
For Outlook Web Access (OWA)
Open the suspicious email
Click the "Phish Alert" button in the top menu
Confirm the action when prompted
For Outlook Mobile (iOS and Android)
Open the suspicious email
Tap the "More options" (three dots) icon
Select "Phish Alert" from the menu
After reporting, the suspicious email will be automatically removed from your inbox to prevent further exposure.
Important Notes
· FSCJ’s Technical Service Desk can be reached at (904)632-3151.
· Do not use the Phish Alert Button for spam or marketing emails. Mark spam as Junk Email in Outlook.
· Do not share your multifactor codes with anyone. Contact the Technical Service Desk immediately if someone suspicious is requesting your code.
· If you accidentally report a legitimate email, contact the Technical Service Desk immediately.
· Do not forward any suspicious email to another staff or student. Use the Phish Alert Report button so your Email administrator can investigate the email.
· The Phish Alert Button is not available in default email apps on mobile devices. Use the Outlook mobile app for reporting on smartphones and tablets.
