Students: Office 365 Email Overview

Summary

As of January 2nd, 2014, the Office 365 experience for students at FSCJ has been upgraded, offering a wide range of new features and services. These enhancements include full application versions of Microsoft Office, OneDrive for Business, social integration, and web apps, allowing students to effectively manage their academic and personal tasks online.

Office 365 Features

OneDrive Overview

  • Storage and Collaboration: OneDrive provides 100GB of personal online storage, functioning similarly to Dropbox or Google Drive. It allows you to share and collaborate with others on documents.

  • Office Web Apps: You can use Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) from any web browser, facilitating work from anywhere.

Outlook Overview

  • Creating a New Message: Click on New Mail to start composing a new email.

  • Folder List: The folder list displays the folders in your mailbox, such as Favorites and Archive. View this pane by clicking Navigation Options (three dots at the bottom left) and selecting Folders. Expand or collapse folders using the triangle icons.

  • Search Window: Use this window to search for emails by typing a person’s name or specific text to locate messages.

  • Message List: This list shows messages in the current folder, displaying information such as unread messages, attachments, flags, or categories. You can filter messages, delete conversations, or categorize them using the icons provided.

  • Reading Pane: Once a message is selected, it appears in the reading pane. Respond using Reply, Reply All, or Forward options.

Calendar Overview

  • Creating Events: Click New Event to create appointments, meetings, or all-day events.

  • Navigation: Use the calendar to navigate dates, with shading indicating the current week and darker shading for today’s date. You can collapse or expand the calendar view with the calendar icon.

  • Viewing Multiple Calendars: Create or add calendars for specific projects or personal appointments. Display multiple calendars in a merged view, with different colors for each.

  • Main Calendar Window: Double-click any white space to create a new calendar item or drag to set an event for a selected time.

  • Agenda: View the agenda for the selected day. Double-click the white space to create a new item for the current date.

People Overview

  • Creating a New Contact: Select New Contact and fill out the ‘General’ and ‘Details’ tabs with their information.

  • Search People: Type a name to search contacts or the organization's address book.

  • Contact Card: Once a contact is selected, a contact card appears with options to send a message, start an IM session, or create a meeting request.

OneDrive Overview

  • Document Management: Choose to view uploaded documents, followed documents, or shared documents.

  • Syncing Files: Download the OneDrive program (included in the Office 365 installation) to sync files between your computer and OneDrive, providing access from anywhere.

  • Creating Documents: Create new Word, PowerPoint, or Excel documents directly in OneDrive.
