Jabber Request and Setup

Cisco Jabber is a unified communications application that enables users to access instant messaging, voice, video, voicemail, and conferencing services. Due to limited licensing, Jabber devices at FSCJ are created upon IT approval. This guide provides information on requesting Jabber access, setting it up, and using the application effectively.

Requesting Jabber Access

To request access to Jabber, follow these steps:

  1. Submit a Ticket Online

    • Go to help.fscj.edu.

    • Navigate to the Campus Tech Support tile.

    • Select Request Phone Services to submit your request for Jabber access.

Forwarding Your Primary Extension

If you do not have Jabber access, you can forward your primary extension to another line using the FSCJ phone portal:

  1. Access the Phone Portal

  2. Forward Your Extension

    • Enter the number you wish to forward to, prefixed with a 9 to allow external dialing.

    • For a local 904 number, dial it as 9 followed by the 7-digit number. Example: 96323151.

    • For a domestic non-904 number, dial it as 9, then 1, followed by the full number. Example: 918506323151.

  3. Submit a Ticket if Necessary

    • If you cannot forward your line, submit a ticket with your primary extension and the desired forwarding number.

Setting Up Jabber

If you already have Jabber access, follow these steps to set it up:

  1. Contact Local Tech Support

    • Reach out to your local tech support team to assist with the installation of the Jabber application.

  2. Install Jabber

    • Once installation is complete, sign into Jabber using your FSCJ user ID and password.

Using Jabber for Calling

Use the following formats when dialing internal and external phone numbers from Jabber:

  • Local 904 Numbers:

    • Dial 9 followed by the 7-digit number. Example: 96323151.

  • Domestic Non-904 Numbers:

    • Dial 9, then 1, followed by the area code and full number. Example: 918506323151.
