Students: Internet Connectivity - Blocked page

KB0010053

When trying to access the FSCJ wireless network, you may get sent to a blocked page.

You have been redirected to this URL because the wireless device has been blocked from the network. Please note:

#1. Florida State College at Jacksonville has implemented a new wireless Intrusion Detection System (IDS). The IDS will help the College defend itself, and the network it is protecting, from intruders, worms, and other targeted attacks.

#2. IDS does the following:

  • Monitors all traffic into and through Florida State College at Jacksonville’s wireless network for possible intrusions.

  • Isolates and classifies the type of intrusion.

  • Alerts, logs, and reports any intrusions.

#3. The IDS detects and protects Florida State College at Jacksonville’s network against many forms of intrusion, including the following:

  • Sniffing

  • Network mapping, ping flooding, and port scanning

  • TCP-session oriented attacks

  • Noise generators

  • Users infected with Internet worms that scan or flood the network and impact network performance negatively

#4. The IDS functions by examining all packets passing through it from the managed side of the network and determining if this traffic falls within the boundaries of normal traffic. These boundaries of normal traffic are defined and configured by Florida State College at Jacksonville’s wireless administrators.

#5. If your wireless device has been blocked for one of the above reasons, or you believe that your device has been blocked but does not meet the above criteria, contact Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Technical Service Desk at 904-632-3151 and request a ticket be logged to address the issue.
