Faculty & Staff: How to Securely Erase an iPad

Why it's important: Each iPad is setup to be used as a personal device, which includes entering personal information and passwords. When someone is returning or no longer using the device, it's imperative the device is securely erased to protect both the individual and the data that is on the iPad.

Users may want to "backup the iPad" prior to erasing it for future use.

How to backup an iPad to the Cloud 

  • Select Settings 

  • Select iCloud (on left column)

  • Ensure iCloud is on/setup

  • Select Backup (on right column)

  • Ensure iCloud backup is On (green)

  • Select Back Up Now

To erase the iPad:

  • Select Settings  

  • Select General on the left column

  • Select Reset at the bottom of the right column

  • Select Erase All Content and Settings

  • Enter the Passcode 

  • Select Erase 

  • Confirm Erase 

  • Enter Apple Password to remove its association from your Apple account
