You can start or accept an IM session with someone directly from Outlook Web App.

You can sign in to IM by selecting your name at the top of the Outlook Web App window, then selecting Sign in to IM.

Once you're signed in to IM, select your name again, then select your status.

Start an IM Session

    • Use the ‘Search People’ area in the top toolbar to find the person you want to send an IM to.

    • Alternatively, if you have an email from the person, open the email and select their name to view their contact card.

  2. Initiate IM Session:

    • On the contact card, select the IM option (chat box icon).

    • This action will open an IM session with the person in Microsoft Teams.

Accept an IM Request

  1. Receive a Message: If someone starts an IM session with you, you will receive a notification in the Microsoft Teams chat area.

  2. Respond: Type your response in the chat box and press Enter to send the message.
